Attendance takes center stage at Cascade

Attendance is a big focus across Bethel this year, and Cascade Middle School is leading the way. Staff began this work last year and have already seen great buy-in from students.

Their message is simple: We want you here. From principals and teachers to counselors, bus drivers and nutrition services staff, students are surrounded by adults who notice when they show up, celebrate their wins and help when things get hard.

Because showing up matters for learning, relationships and belonging, and for building a future of their choosing. Watch the video to see it in action.

We're looking for volunteers!

Bethel Mentor Club is looking for volunteers to mentor students at Cascade Middle School on either Tuesdays or Thursdays during lunch!

Bethel is IDLE FREE!

According to the US EPA, No-idling expectations at schools protect children's health, clean the air, and save money by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions during drop-off and pick-up times. Research shows our students spend an average of 5 minutes walking through the exhaust from the cars in the pick-up lanes. We are thinking about the adults in our community too, when we remind them that they are sitting in clouds of CO2 for 10-15 minutes daily. Not only does this cause a huge hit to the wallet at the gas station; adult lungs are at risk for illnesses, too. We hope each of our community members joins us by turning the key to be idle free. We thank you for considering the positive changes impacting our environment when we are IDLE FREE.

E-Bikes: Reminder for parents

  1. If it can go faster that 20mph with a throttle, it’s not an e-bike, it’s an e-moto and illegal everywhere in Eugene except private property.
  2. Only kids over 16 are allowed to ride e-bikes. Everyone under 16 should ride regular bikes, scooters and skateboards.

Learn to ride a bike!

On August 30, 61 participants joined us for a day of fun, learning and achievement at our 5th Annual Learn to Ride a Bike event, held with Project Hope and our partners: Eugene-Springfield Safe Routes to School, Shift Community Cycles, Lane Council of Governments and the City of Eugene.

Twenty people took their first pedal strokes, and many others made exciting progress on their biking journey. Thank you to Heather Zalabak for capturing the smiles, determination and celebration of the day.
Here's to building confidence, community and healthy habits together!

Next up: The next Community Learn to Ride is March 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bob Keefer Center in Springfield. For more information, contact Christina Lundahl at christina.lundahl@springfield.k12.or.us or Brad Albee at albee_b@4j.lane.edu.
