Important Update: Middle School Plans and Boundary Changes for 2026–27
Good afternoon, Bethel families,
Thank you for your patience, questions, and support as we continue to plan for the closure of Shasta Middle School at the end of this school year. We know this transition brings uncertainty, and we are committed to sharing information with you as soon as it is available.
Today we are providing an update on what next year will look like for current Shasta students, as well as how district boundary changes will affect some families beginning in the 2026-27 school year
Middle School Placement for Shasta Students
The district has decided to move forward with a scenario in which all current 6th- and 7th-grade Shasta students will attend Cascade Middle School next year, allowing this cohort to remain together. This is the Shasta only group that will be guaranteed a spot at Cascade. Younger students (current 5th-graders and younger) who would have attended Shasta are not automatically assigned to Cascade; their middle school will be determined by updated boundaries.
Life Skills Placement
Our middle school Life Skills program will move to Meadow View K-8 school. Elementary Life Skills programming will remain at Irving.
Boundary Changes
Some boundary adjustments are needed in response to the closure of Shasta that will affect some current students at our elementary schools and K-8s. These changes are designed to balance enrollment across schools and minimize disruption as much as possible. The updated boundaries outlined below will take effect beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
Fairfield: No boundary changes.
Irving: No boundary changes. All Irving students will attend Cascade for middle school.
-
Meadow View: Current Meadow View students are not impacted by these boundary shifts.
Students in the Danebo catchment area who live north of Avalon Street will attend Meadow View for middle school.
Addresses north of Barger and west of Beltline will shift from Prairie Mountain into the Meadow View boundary for new students.
New families moving into this area - and siblings who are not yet attending Prairie Mountain- will be assigned to Meadow View under the new boundary.
Malabon: No boundary changes.
-
Prairie Mountain: Current Prairie Mountain students are not impacted by these boundary shifts.
Students in the Danebo catchment area who live south of Avalon Street will attend Prairie Mountain for middle school. This includes houses on the south side of Avalon (even-numbered addresses).
-
The northern edge of the Prairie Mountain boundary will now end at Barger Drive.
Addresses north of Barger and west of Beltline will shift into the Meadow View boundary for new students.
Students who live in this area north of Barger/west of Beltline and are currently enrolled at Prairie Mountain will be considered “legacy” students and may remain at Prairie Mountain if they choose.
New families moving into that area - and siblings who are not yet attending Prairie Mountain- will be assigned to Meadow View under the new boundary.
Danebo: Boundaries for the elementary level are not changing. Because all Danebo students are currently routed to Shasta for middle school, they will need to be assigned a new home middle school once Shasta closes at the end of the 2025-26 school year. Danebo will remain their elementary home school, but their middle school home program will shift to either Prairie Mountain or Meadow View based on the new boundaries.
Middle school boundaries for Danebo students
Danebo addresses north of Avalon and west of Beltline will attend Meadow View for middle school.
Danebo students whose addresses are south of Avalon and west of Beltline AND addresses that are south of Royal and east of Beltline to Candlelight will attend Prairie Mountain.
Map
Maps of the new boundaries are currently being updated and will be shared with families.
We recognize that these changes may be confusing. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to communications@bethel.k12.or.us.
Transfers and Transportation
A special transfer window will be open January 19-31 for all current Shasta 6th- and 7th-grade students who would like to request a transfer to a school other than their home school.
Students who participate in specialized programs—such as band—will have the option to remain with that program at its new location.
Beginning January 19, transfer requests may be submitted online at: bethel.k12.or.us/shasta-school-closure
Transportation will continue to be provided for all eligible students, including those who transfer during the special window.
This includes students who currently attend Shasta on a transfer.
After January 31, families may still submit transfer requests through our regular process, and approvals will be based on availability. Additional information about our standard transfer process will be linked in family communications.
Upcoming Family Listening Sessions
We know these changes will generate questions, and we encourage staff and families to join any of the upcoming engagement sessions. Staff will be available to answer questions about transfers, boundaries, transportation and more.
